Discord Font Generator
Fancy fonts for Discord names, server names, channels and messages. Copy and paste.
What Is a Discord Font Generator?
A Discord font generator is a free tool that turns plain words into fancy text, like ππ¨π₯π, π²πππππ or ππ π¦πππ-π€π₯π£π¦ππ, that you can copy and paste into your Discord display name, server, channels and chats. The letters are Unicode characters, so they keep their style anywhere Discord shows text.
Discord is a messaging platform built for gamers and many other communities, but it has almost no styling options. There is no font picker, so custom fonts made from Unicode are the easiest way to give your profile or server a clear identity and style.
Type in the box above and the best fonts for Discord appear first: bold, gothic and glitch styles that stand out in a busy server. The rest of our cool fonts follow below.
Discord fonts work for your name, a server title or a quick announcement. For the full set of styles in one place, see our main Font Generator.
How Do You Use the Discord Font Generator?
To use the Discord font generator, type your text into the text box (some sites call it a textarea), watch the styles appear automatically, then tap Copy on the one you like. It goes to your clipboard, ready to paste into Discord.
The cards at the top are filtered to the Best Fonts for Discord, so you see bold, gothic and glitch styles first. Tap the heart to save favorites, use Recent to find styles you copied before, and use Share to send a link with your text filled in.
Each card also has Preview on social apps. The Discord preview shows your text as a display name and a message, with live counters for the 32-character name limit and the 2,000-character message limit.
Then paste into Discord. Many people still think of it as cut βοΈ and paste π: copy here, paste there, done. On a phone, long-press the field; on a computer, press Ctrl+V or Cmd+V.
Which Fonts Look Best on Discord?
The fonts that look best on Discord are bold, small caps, monospace and double-struck for names, and gothic or glitch styles for an edgy look. Discord is built around gaming and communities, so bold, edgy fonts fit the culture better than delicate ones.
On this page, the Discord picks include Bold Sans, Bold Serif, Bold Italic, Bold Gothic, Gothic, Glitch, Glitch Heavy, Cursed, Skull, Gothic Cross, Dragon and Bold Cursive.
Sans Bold, which we call Bold Sans, is the safe default because it reads cleanly in a busy member list and styles digits too. Bold Script and Bold Gothic are decorative picks for gaming and roleplay servers, giving a dark drama look. Glitch adds a hacked feel, and Bold Cursive from our Cursive Text Generator suits softer community names.
Small Caps is the quietest option, and Monospace gives a terminal style. Fraktur and Double-Struck work too, but they are harder to read on small screens. For heavier letters, try our Bold Text Generator.
How Do Discord Fonts Work?
Discord fonts work because they are letters, not formatting. Discord has no font picker, but Unicode includes many alternative alphabets, so the generator swaps each normal letter for a look-alike character.
The Unicode standard is the universal system that turns binary data into text characters. Older guides say it holds 100,000+ characters, but today it has more than 150,000, far more than any keyboard.
Some of these alphabets are official. Fraktur, the π¬π©π‘ π°π±πΆπ©π’ letters, was added because academics needed symbol alphabets for equations, along with double-struck and script letters.
Other styles are pseudo-alphabets, like γγεδΉε°Ί. They use lookalike symbols from other languages that happen to resemble English letters. Either way, Discord sees the result as ordinary text and displays it as written.
Where Can You Use Fancy Fonts on Discord?
You can use fancy fonts in almost every Discord text field except your username. That includes your display name, server nickname, About Me bio, server name, channel name, role names, custom status, channel topics, messages and direct message chats, plus the name on your profile.
Here is a quick guide:
| Field | Fancy fonts? |
|---|---|
| Username | No, plain only |
| Display name | Yes |
| Server nickname | Yes |
| About Me | Yes |
| Server, channel and role names | Yes, if you have permission |
| Messages | Yes |
Server permissions, not the text itself, decide where you can edit. If you can rename a channel, you can give it a fancy font. Most “font not working” problems come from pasting into the wrong field, which the sections below explain.
Can You Use Fancy Fonts in Your Discord Username?
No, you cannot use fancy fonts in your Discord username. Since the 2023 username change, the @username only accepts 2 to 32 characters made of lowercase letters a-z, numbers 0-9, dots and underscores. Some guides call the dots periods.
Put your styled text in your display name instead. That is the name people see next to your messages, so it is where fancy fonts matter most.
Your username stays plain behind the scenes. That is good news, because @mentions still work: Discord matches mentions on your display name or your username, so friends can find and tag you.
If you also want a plain, catchy handle to go with your styled name, try our Username Generator.
How Long Can a Discord Display Name Be?
A Discord display name can be up to 32 characters, and so can a server nickname. The About Me bio allows up to 190 characters, and that About Me limit counts styled letters too.
Some guides say each styled letter counts as one character on Discord, while some counters show that a fancy letter counts as two, while others note that Discord does not publish how it counts styled letters. Treat anything close to the character limit as borderline.
Some styles cost more. Combining-mark styles, like strikethrough or underline, add one mark per letter, so they roughly double the count. Frames also add up: β 彑 彑β adds six characters, so a 27-letter name inside it is already over 32.
Our Discord preview counts the safe method, so a fancy letter may show as two. If a counter turns amber or red on other tools, or goes over on ours, shorten the name before pasting.
How Do You Change Your Font on Discord?
You cannot change the font for names or bios in Discord settings. The app uses its own typeface, gg sans, and there is no font setting for text you type.
Discord Nitro offers Display Name Styles, which can show your display name in fonts such as Tempo or 8Bit. Free accounts can only preview those styles.
The free route is Unicode. Copy a style from this page, open User Settings, go to Profiles, and paste it into your display name. Because the characters are your name itself, they show without Nitro.
You can do the same with your server nickname in each server, so you can use a different style in a gaming server and a calmer one in a study group.
How Do You Bold, Italic and Underline Text on Discord?
In Discord messages, you format text with markdown. Use **bold** for bold, *italic* for italic, __underline__ for underline and ~~strikethrough~~ for strikethrough. These work in the message box, not in names.
More options:
***bold italic***for bold italic__**bold underline**__for bold underline||spoiler||hides text until clicked`inline code`for code```code block for longer code- > block quote and – bulleted list at the start of a line
Each one uses asterisks, underscores, tildes or vertical bars around your text. These codes only format messages, so if you type them into your display name, they appear as plain symbols. Use fancy fonts from this page for names instead. Discord’s official markdown guide lists every option.
How Do You Make Big or Small Text on Discord?
To make big text in Discord messages, start a line with a header: # Big Header, ## Medium Header or ### Small Header. To make small text, start a line with -# and a space, which shows the line as smaller subtext.
You must start a line with the symbol and add a space after it, or the header will not work.
You cannot change font size in names. For a name, small caps is the nearest thing to small text, and subscript like βββββ ββββ makes tiny letters you can paste anywhere.
Headers are great for server rules or announcements. For more tiny letter styles, try our Small Caps Generator.
How Do You Make Colored Text on Discord?
Discord colors text inside a code block tagged ansi, using an invisible escape character, shown as β, that most keyboards cannot type. Generators build the block for you, with eight standard colors.
The colors show on desktop and in the browser. The mobile apps have often shown the same block as plain text, so send a test message from your phone before a big post.
Colored text only works in messages. It cannot color a display name, server name or channel name.
Because the escape character is invisible, always use a copy button rather than typing the colors by hand. Typing them manually will not work.
Should You Use Fonts or Markdown in Discord Messages?
Use markdown in messages when it can do the job. Markdown bold is your real text, so it stays searchable, Discord search can find it, and screen readers handle it normally, while fancy fonts are lookalike characters that screen readers often skip.
Fonts are best for places markdown cannot reach: your display name, server nickname, server name and channel names.
Markdown may not stack on top of Unicode fonts, so a fancy word wrapped in double asterisks may look the same as without them.
Also, bots that read commands may not recognize fancy symbols. Type bot commands in plain text so they work every time. A good rule: fancy fonts for who you are, markdown for what you say.
Why Is My Discord Font Not Working?
Most Discord font problems come from pasting into the wrong field. Fonts work in names and messages but not in your username, and markdown only works in messages. In a name, markdown shows as literal asterisks.
For headers, subtext, quotes and lists, a missing space is the usual problem, or the symbol is not at the start of the line. Write # Title, not #Title.
Markdown inside a code block shows as plain text, including spoilers. Names never render markdown at all, so use fonts there.
If a font pastes but looks plain, the server or device may not support that style. Paste the right thing into the right field and try a simpler style.
Why Do Some Discord Fonts Show as Boxes or Get Clipped?
Some Discord fonts show as boxes when the viewer’s device has no font for that style, or when a generator used an empty slot. Unicode’s math alphabets have 24 gaps, such as script B and italic h, whose letters live in another block. Good generators, including this one, fill those gaps correctly.
Glitch-style marks are different. Zalgo and strikethrough styles add marks above and below letters, and in a name they get clipped by Discord’s line height, which looks like a rendering bug.
Discord may also filter some unusual symbols, so a few may not display at all.
If anyone sees boxes, switch to a plainer style like bold. For marks that look broken on purpose, use our Glitch Text Generator in messages rather than names.
Can Server Bots or Rules Block Fancy Names?
Yes, some servers block fancy names. Moderation bots can strip or rename Unicode display names on join, and server owners can require plain names so members are easy to mention and moderate.
Check the server rules before you paste a fully styled name. If you get renamed on join, the bot, not the font, is the cause.
Admins often allow fancy fonts in roles and welcome messages while asking members to keep nicknames readable.
If you run a server, decide on a rule and post it, so new members know what to expect. Your role permissions decide who can rename channels and roles, so you control where fancy fonts appear. Many communities allow one styled word in a nickname but ban full zalgo names, which keeps the member list tidy and readable.
How Do You Style Server, Channel and Role Names?
To style a server, channel or role name, copy a font here and paste it into the name field in Server Settings, as long as you have permission. Unicode letters pass through untouched.
Channel names are lowercased and hyphenated by Discord, but fancy letters stay as they are. For example, game night can become ππππ πππππ₯ or π€ππͺπ’ π«π¦π€π₯π±. Keep channel names short so they fit the sidebar.
Styled role titles help members spot staff and VIPs, and a styled server name gives your community a clear server identity.
Whether you run a game server, a server with friends, fan clubs or a podcasting community, matching fonts with your server aesthetics and themes looks polished. Many owners use the same style in banners, graphics and overlays. For dark, dramatic names, try our Gothic Text Generator.
Do Discord Fonts Work on Mobile?
Yes, Discord fonts work on mobile, desktop and the web. Bold, italic, monospace and small caps look identical on desktop, iOS and Android.
Fraktur and double-struck also work, but they are harder to read at the smaller size on phones, where names show at about 14px in the member list.
You can create fonts on a PC, Mac, phone or tablet, and this page works in Chrome, Firefox and Safari on smartphones and tablets.
Test your name in the mobile app after you paste it, since that is where many members will see it. If a style looks cramped on a phone, switch to bold or small caps, which stay sharp at small sizes.
Can You Use Discord Fonts on Other Platforms?
Yes, Unicode fonts work almost everywhere, including Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, WhatsApp and Hangouts, as well as game forums, a website or a blog.
Markdown is different. When cross-posting, **launch day** pasted into Instagram or X shows the asterisks, because those apps do not read Discord markdown. Unicode fonts are the one style that carries over.
Many gamers use the same handle style on TikTok and their Twitter profile, so their name looks consistent everywhere.
Keep in mind each platform’s limits. X allows 280 characters per post, and fancy letters may count as two. Instagram, TikTok and other apps have their own limits for names and bios, so check each one before you paste.
Do You Need Discord Nitro for Fonts?
No, you do not need Discord Nitro for anything on this page. Fonts, markdown and colored text all work on a free account.
Nitro is a paid plan with extra perks. It raises the message limit from 2,000 to 4,000 characters and adds Display Name Styles.
Unicode fonts work without Nitro because the style is part of the text itself.
So you can have a styled name, a styled server and formatted messages with no Nitro at all. If you later buy Nitro, your Unicode name keeps working, and you can mix it with Nitro’s own display name effects if you like. Many people never upgrade, because pasted fonts already give them the look they want.
Is the Discord Font Generator Free and Safe?
Yes, the Discord font generator is free and safe, with no login, no signup and no usage limits. It runs in your browser, with nothing uploaded and no data stored on a server.
The output is plain text, so there is nothing to install and nothing that can harm your account.
Your text stays private, and you can copy as many styles as you like.
Use it on any device, as often as you need, for names, servers and messages. There is no premium plan, no watermark and no limit on how many styles you copy, so you can test a dozen names before you pick one.
What Are Some Good Discord Font Examples?
Good Discord font examples are short names and labels, like Player One, Gamer, Join us, GG or Server update. Short text stays readable in the member list and fits the character limits.
Here is “Player One” in three Discord-safe styles:
- Bold: ππ₯ππ²ππ« ππ§π
- Small caps: α΄Κα΄Κα΄Κ α΄Ι΄α΄
- Monospace (terminal look): πΏπππ’ππ πΎππ
Use bold for announcements, like game night announcements, and keep chit-chats in plain text. Short labels also look great as role names, such as a bold Gamer role or a monospace Server update channel. Try Hello or GG in a strikethrough style for a joke, using our Strikethrough Text generator. For double-struck letters like π»ππ€ππ π£π, see our Double-Struck Text page.
